A prominent South African media personality and entertainer has been fatally gunned down in the metropolis of Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a country battling entrenched crime.

Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was attacked in the downtown area on Tuesday afternoon.

Officials stated the 40-year-old entertainer was approached by a trio of assailants, with one shot at him before running away.

The purpose behind the attack is unknown and no one has been arrested are in custody, as per the official statement.

How It Happened

Police revealed that Stock was targeted as he was leaving a building close to the Carlton Centre.

He had spent several hours at the building supervising the implementation of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by unidentified individuals, it was reported.

"It is alleged the man was confronted by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they began shooting at him before fleeing the scene on foot," an official report stated.

Security camera video showed a man with dreadlocks and wearing what resembled a security uniform opening fire on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ sought to escape after he was hit but fell down a short distance away.

Police added that Stock had an unused firearm and nothing was taken during the incident.

Crucial forensic evidence, like bullet casings, were discovered at the crime scene.

Authorities have requested members of the public who may have witnessed the attack to assist with the investigation.

"We know they traveled on foot after the attack, and police have been tracking them to find their whereabouts," stated a police chief.

His sister, Nicole Stock, expressed the relatives are devastated to understand the tragedy.

"I am in shock. I cannot express the pain," were her words.
"It is clear he was a representative for countless citizens. He was a fearless commentator about topics not many people were willing to discuss. This is a profound tragedy."

She requested the public to avoid sharing explicit content from the incident, explaining this was an extremely painful time, above all for Stock's three sons.
